Nai Palm – Have You Ever Been (to Electric Ladyland)

Track: Have You Ever Been (to Electric Ladyland)
Artist: Nai Palm
Album: Needle Paw
Originally by: Jimi Hendrix from The Jimi Hendrix Experience album

A friend of mine sent me this clip when it came out on Youtube and it has been one of the songs released this year that I quite cherish.

The imaginary Electric Ladyland is said to be inspired by Jimi Hendrix’s notorious promiscuity. However with Nai Palm’s, cripplingly raw vocals, and masterful guitar playing (that does more than just do the genius of Jimi justice) – the song takes on an entirely new context.

You’d be forced to see the soul in Jimi Hendrix’s entire artistry now.

Nai Palm is two-time Grammy nominated singer-songwriter and guitarist to one of my favorite musical discoveries of 2015, Hiatus Kaiyote. Purveyors of future-soul, with their lush instrumentation, I can totally see why Nai Palm felt like she had to do Needle Paw.

She’s headed backwards with her voodoo magic – and she’s taking us with her to a little breather into real love and nostalgia.

Have you ever been to Electric Ladyland?
The magic carpet waits, for you
So don’t you be late.
I wanna show you the different emotions,
I wanna run to the sounds and motions.
Electric woman waits for you and me.
So it’s time we take a ride,
Cast our hang-ups over the seaside.
While we fly right over the love filled sea
Look up ahead, I see the loveland,
do you understand?

Make love, make love, make love, make love.

I wanna show you, angels gonna spread their wings
I wanna show you, good and evil lay side by side
while electric love penetrates the sky
I wanna show you
